The San Francisco - Cork Sister City relationship was established in May 1984.
The Sister City concept was championed by President Eisenhower in 1956 to foster citizen diplomacy between the United States and foreign lands.
Then Mayor Feinstein led a delegation of 250 San Franciscans to Cork in 1985. Subsequently Mayors Jordan, Newsom and Lee have continued the tradition leading successful missions of citizen diplomats from the Bay Area to foster cultural and business ties.
Our friendship mission aims to mutually expand municipal, business, trade, educational, and cultural ties between San Francisco and our sister city Cork, Ireland.
